While there is no denying that anxiety is on the increase due largely to the stress and strain that most people experience to ever-increasing degrees, there are a number of relatively easy self treatment options that you can use to dramatically decrease your levels of stress and strain and to help yourself alleviate many of your anxiety reactions.

Sometimes these self treatment options can be effective on their own. And in some cases they are not enough to totally treat anxiety effectively. Even if your particular case does require a more orthodox medical treatment for your anxiety you may find that adding in some safe and easy to use self help techniques provides a more holistic approach to treating your anxiety.

Probably the simplest self treatment option for anxiety is exercise. It has been proven scientifically that regular exercise can have an incredibly powerful regulating and balancing effect on our bodies and minds. In fact one of the most effective forms of treatment for depression and anxiety is regular exercise.

Exercise performed on a regular basis creates a number of positive changes within the body and mind of someone who suffers with anxiety.

People who are chronically anxious burn an incredible amount of energy performing their normal day-to-day tasks. It's as if their motor is idling too high burning more fuel and using more energy than is needed. If you suffer with anxiety exercise can increase your energy levels by relaxing the nervous system to the point where it no longer uses up as much energy.

For someone who is constantly anxious exercise can help to reduce their levels of anxiety and nervous tension thereby freeing up a lot of the energy that is being used by the body when it is in and nervous and agitated state.

A regular routine of reasonable intense exercise will generate the release of endorphins into a system. Endorphins are often referred to as happy hormones because they make us feel good. And one of the surest ways to create a release of endorphins and experience an exercise high is to actually exercise.

Some forms of exercise can help directly to relieve tension and tightness within muscles that lead to chronic pain patterns within people who suffer from anxiety. Yoga is an excellent example of this form of exercise.

Now if you are thinking that doing exercise on a regular basis sounds like it's going to be a lot of work keep in mind that any kind of regular physical activity will help with your anxiety.

And whatever you do don't let your lack of exercise knowledge give you something else to get anxious about.

Simply start where you are. Walking is an excellent place to begin. As your fitness levels increase and you begin to become more confident in your ability to exercise you can try getting a little more adventurous.

Today you can take your pick from an unlimited number of exercise and fitness activities both indoors and out. Pilates classes. Boxercise. Abseiling. As unlikely as some of these may seem at the moment when she gets started a whole world of exercise opportunities will open up to you. Some you won't even have to leave home for as video instruction on a whole range of exercise and fitness methods is now freely available.

Whatever your levels of tension, stress and anxiety may be, regular exercise will provide you with a safe and easy use way to let go of your anxiety and feel better about yourself.
