You have many treatment options if you are suffering from anxiety. But anti anxiety medication gives you immediate relief even if you are unable to attend your daily chores.

Anti anxiety medication works faster than non-medication treatments and counseling. So if you have severe anxiety and your diagnoses suggest medication, go for anti anxiety medication.

Anti anxiety medication provides you almost instant relaxation. But this isn't a complete cure because it doesn't touch the root cause. Until you treat the root cause, you won't be all right permanently.

However, let's know some of the best anti anxiety medications...

Azaspirones

You can use these drugs if you have Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). These medicines are very effective. They work gradually over 2 to 4 weeks. You won't have any severe side effects such as sedation, memory and balance problems.

Benzodiazepines

These are excellent for GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder), social phobia and panic attacks. Benzodiazepines relieve you instantly, but you will experience some side effects. You will also become dependent. So don't take them for long time.

Beta Blockers

These will control adrenaline flow in your blood. And then they calm down palpitations, shaking and sweating etc. But the problem is they also reduce blood pressure and slow the heartbeat. So you'd better talk to your doctor about the entire picture frequently.

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs)

These are the widely used medicines now. They helps you with panic disorder, depression, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and other challenges. But you also have some common side-effects like nausea, sexual difficulties and nervousness.

MonoAmine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)

These anti anxiety medicines treat both depression and anxiety. If other medicines don't work, these MAOIs will help you. But they interfere with what you eat and other medicines too.

And finally, use these anti anxiety medications in combination with other therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy. Then you can root out the anxiety disorder.
