Alexy Ignashov

Alexy Ignashov, born January 18, 1976 is a world famous K-1 fighter that is very popular with the fans in Japan and elsewhere. He fights out of New Zealand. In the K-1 World Grand Prix bout of 2003 held in Paris, he defeated three challengers and won the K-1 World Grand Prix title. His fans simply went crazy.

From the very beginning of this World Grand Prix, Alexy Isnashov was a favorite to win this tournament. Coming into this tournament, he held a record of 58 wins in 64 fights, 31 wins were by knockout.

Alexy Ignashov is known as “The Scorpion” or “The Red Scorpion” due to his biting, stinging fighting style. His fast, clean knockouts are his trademark. In the semifinals of this World Grand Prix, Ignashov faced Alexander Ustinov, a giant of a man. The first round was even but in that round, Ignashov reopened a cut over Ustinov’s eye. In the second round, Ignashov was clearly in the lead with this light footwork. The fight was judged in Alexy’s favor.

In the final bout, Alexy Ignashov was matched against Abidi, another explosive fighter known for his unorthodox style and power kicks. While Abidi threw the first blows and kicks, Ignashov seized the fight and sent Abidi down with a right punch. Ignashov was fast in the second round working with mixed combinations and his strong left punch. Abidi strugged to hold his own.  Ignashov won the fight when, only seconds into the third round, Abidi staggered and his cornerman threw in the towel because Abidi has injured his left shoulder.

Alexy Ignashov is famous for knee strikes. He is one of the most talented heavyweight kickboxing fighers anywhere and is considered to be among the most technically sound fighters as well. Of course, talent has played a large role in his success. Even though he is a great fighter, some of the really big titles have not been won by him in his career.

Alexy Ignashov has been accused of being an alcoholic and his training has come into question. However, he continues in his career, ignoring these rumors. He trained in Muay Thai martial arts with the Chinuk gym in Belarus. He has also trained in New Zealand and Japan.
