If you are one of the people who suffer with acne (Zits) then you are well aware of the distress and problems it causes; but this is a skin condition that can be treated. This is a skin complaint that affects many people around the world so scientific research to find a cure is fierce; this is good news with the range of effective skin care treatments improving all the time. For those people that require treatment, the acne skin care products required fall broadly into a number of categories including:
Drugstore or Internet: Preventative medication
Over-the-Counter: Treatments for conditions that do not require prescription
Prescription: Issued for specialized medication from a doctor
General acne products are used as a preventative measure and include cleansers, make-up removers and other similar products that can help prevent acne. In the real sense, these products are just those that should be part of your daily routine to prevent possible problems in the future.
Many of these cleansers act in almost exactly the same way as acne skin care products which have been formulated to limit the amount of oil or sebum forming in the pores. Excess oil needs to be stopped from clogging the pores as this oil make it easier for bacteria to grow, exacerbating the condition.
Exfoliation skin peels have proved quite effective as a skin care treatment and at controlling the problem. There are now more and more of these types of products available over the counter. This type of peel helps reduce the chance of oil clogging up the pores as well as removing other skin impurities; this can reduce the bacterium growth on your skin.
There are specialized acne skin care products available over-the-counter, they do not require the need of a prescription. Products that contain the chemical benzoyl peroxide and the naturally occurring salicylic acid are used in vanishing creams. They work by removing the excess oil from the skin and halt the growth of acne.
It is preferable when you first start using this type of product to keep the concentration of it low, around 5.5 percent is best. You can always try a cleaner or cream containing alpha hydroxy acid if this doesn't work. It is not always possible to find an acne skin care product that works first time. You may need to try a few but if none of them seem to be working then you would be advised to contact your skin specialist.
Products that your dermatologist or doctor will recommend will only be available on prescription, they may include a course of antibiotics or topical ointments. Under certain circumstances, having the infected material removed from the pores under a local anesthetic may be suggested by your dermatologist. This is something you should never attempt yourself.
