If you would like to change your eye color to match your outfit or even your mood, consider colored contact lenses. It doesn't matter whether or not you actually need vision correction. Colored contact lenses are available with many bright colors to choose from.

Currently, only a handful of contact lens wearers understand that they could have colored contacts if they wanted to. A number of people aren't aware that these lenses are widely available, and that almost all prescriptions can come in a vast array of color choices. Even if a customer understands this, few are willing to try the lenses for themselves.

But this shouldn't be a cause for concern. The new color can be a slight or a big departure from your original eye color, and that is partly what makes trying out colored contact lenses a lot more fun.

If you want colored contact lenses and don't need to correct your vision, it will still be necessary for you to visit an eye doctor to get a prescription for them. A plano prescription is the type of prescription you will receive - this is what the prescription is called when no vision correction is necessary.

For this type of prescription, the doctor will normally measure the eye's size and curvature to make sure that the lenses fit snuggly. If the lenses are of the wrong size, they will cause immediate pain and irritation.

Unfortunately, there is the wrong assumption that color contacts which are not used for correcting vision can be shared with other individuals. You would be smart to avoid doing this. You should never wear someone else's contact lenses or let them wear yours.

The size and shape of the lenses can be all wrong for another person. They may cause pain, and - if the lenses were not properly cleaned - even serious eye infection from harmful bacteria.

Many choices are available within the realm of colored contact lenses, so it is vital to know what the possibilities are.

Opaque colored lenses, for instance, are the best choice for a person who wishes to change the color of his eyes completely. Colored lenses are in fact tinted, and in addition to changing color, you will discover other kinds of tints, but not all of them are formulated to change the color of a person's eyes.

By having a visibility tint on your contact lenses, your lenses are much easier to see and handle. Clear contact lenses, when dropped, will look nearly invisible against any background and become rather difficult to find.

However, a colored tint on the lens makes it easy to locate and retrieve them. Enhancement tints have a richer tint that even deepens and amplifies a person's natural eye color.

Lots of people who play outdoor sports prefer lenses that provide UV/UB ray protection. The special tints on these lenses can minimize glare in order to aid vision and improve performance.

There's also a brand of colored contact lenses that can darken to a protective shade when the light is bright enough, and then shift back into clear mode when the wearer goes indoors.
