Also known as hobble corset because it produces similar restrictive effects to a hobble skirt, a person wearing a corset dress can have great difficulty in walking up and down the stairs (especially if wearing high-heeled footwear) and may be unable to sit down if the boning is too stiff.
A corset dress is a fashion statement that is usually expensive because more materials are used. The unique shape gives the body an instant change, lifting the breasts and reducing the waistline. The wearer look seductive.
The boning in the corset dress makes it rigid, and is often worn by Gothic people or for sexual arousal.
Take note that when a corset is worn for a long period, it soon becomes a bondage corset; that is, when it's worn as often as underwear such that a woman does about anything in a corset dress, the continuously excruciating act can be construed as bondage.
Nowadays, corset dress can either maximize or minimize the breast, giving out a svelte or curvy figure. Some corset dresses even have separate tops and skirts, while others have built-in corsets to support the upper midriff only.
