Song Lyrics and Dating - It All Adds Up to Wisdom

I was driving around last night, listening to the radio like I always do, when I heard a song by Vertical Horizon that I have heard many times before. However, last night the song truly struck a chord with me. The song is called Everything You Want. The lyrics go, "He is everything you want, He's everything you need He says all the right things at exactly the right time - But he means nothing to you, and you don't know why."

This is a truly amazing song if you can stop and think about what the words are really saying. The song is describing the lifelong plight of the "nice guy". It's surprising how many nice guys have problems hooking up with women. They can't get a date because of the simple fact that they are TOO nice.

Let me lay it out for you in one simple sentence. Nice guys do not get the girls because they are too nice, which means the women do not feel attraction for them. When they look at these men they see a friend and nothing more.

The simplicity of it all struck me while I was listening to Everything You Want. These nice guys are everything that women SAY they want. They are sweet, complementary and romantic, and they probably love their families and their mothers. But while he is everything she says she wants - she wants nothing to do with him.

What you will see is the attractive woman going out with some no brain jock that chugs beer and reads at a first grade level and treats her like a pet. Why does the hot chick date the dumb jock? It's very simple -- she feels attraction for him.

I don't mean that you should try to treat women like garbage. What I do mean is that you need to learn to create attraction for her like Tarzan does so that you can get a date. You need to spark her attraction and keep it going with your own actions and wiles.

So what does a single man do to accomplish this? There are any number of things you can do, but one of my personal favorites is using a little humor combined with roguish behavior (otherwise known as Cocky Comedy). In other words - you need to bust her balls and keep her on her toes at all times. She needs to NOT know what you might do next in order to keep her from being able to tell if her charms are working on you.

Most guys don't get it revealing your level of attraction to a woman in the beginning of your relationship is the perfect way to kill the attraction. The typical nice guy is going to let her know that by treating her like a diamond. The dumb jock, on the other hand, is not going to reveal this to her and his unfeigned "I don't care" attitude is naturally going to keep her guessing -- and coming back for more.

So remember - if you tend to be a nice guy, just sing that Vertical Horizon song to yourself and quit being that man that she will not want. Give her what she really wants by being a little bit of a bad boy and your dating life will turn around.
