As people with acid reflux disease know there are certain foods, which can actually aggravate their condition and so make the symptoms associated with it much more painful and uncomfortable. One of the first things a person needs to know is what acid reflux food to avoid if they want to prevent their condition from becoming any worse.

It is best therefore once they know which foods are exacerbating their condition they either reduce the amount they eat, or they eliminate them from the diet altogether. In this article, we offer a number of tips that should help when it comes to avoiding those foods, which can aggravate acid reflux.

1. If you have been recently diagnosed with suffering from acid reflux then you should start to reduce the amount of fatty foods that you eat or eliminate them from your diet altogether. Although hamburgers and hotdogs taste great they are foods, which can actually irritate your stomach and increase, the chances of an acid reflux attack occurring.

2. Although we are often being told that vegetables are good for us, unfortunately there are some that can make your acid reflux condition worse. The vegetables that you should be trying to avoid as much as possible (so eliminate from your diet) are cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts and onions.

3. Also it is important that you actually start to reduce your intake of foods, which contain caffeine such as coffee, tea and some sodas. If you do not then you will cause an increase of gastric acid to be secreted in your stomach and which will cause an attack of acid reflux to happen. So before you drink anything look at the label carefully to see exactly what ingredients it contains and those with caffeine in them should be avoided as much as possible.

4. Also it is important that you start to reduce your intake of foods, which have high levels of acidity in them. Avoiding fruits such as oranges, lemons, grapefruit and cranberry juice will help to ensure that your condition does not get worse. Also you will also need to start reducing the amount of alcohol that you consume as again as these also contain high levels of acidity within them.

5. Finally, a person who suffers from acid reflux should be avoiding those foods, which contain any kind of spice or chili in them. Although you may like a good curry or a chili con carne these could further aggravate your acid reflux symptoms if you suffer from this particular stomach condition. Many people though have found that by eliminating such foods from their diet has helped them to bring their condition under control and reduce the chance of further acid reflux attacks occurring.

Above we have provided you with information on what are the main acid reflux food to avoid if you have been diagnosed with this particular stomach complaint. Certainly, those people who have chosen to make changes to their diet in order to avoid the foods, which aggravate their acid reflux, have found it far much easier to manage and control than if they do not. There are even some people who have found that over time the symptoms that they associate with acid reflux lessen and in some cases may disappear altogether.
