We can have our favorite movie delivered by mail after making the selection online. However, selecting and watching the movie online is an even better option.

There are two basic approaches to doing this. We can get the movie without paying for it by whatever means or pay a fee and use a movie download site. This article will compare the online download memberships, offline video stores, and the 'free' online alternatives against each other.

The enormous selection in movies that are available is one clear benefit of a movie download site. From these extensive movie archives, you can download as often and as much as you please. Because of a limited amount of physical space, no offline video store will ever be able to match this.

This means that they are forced to cater to popular tastes. Online memberships can have an extremely varied and extensive movie selection because they aren't limited by shelving space. If you have your own unique tastes but also enjoy the popular movies, you can get both online.

It is often an easier task to search online than browsing through endless shelves for a particular movie in a brick and mortar store. A search box that will search by director, title, actor, or any keyword will make your search for a movie online very easy. There are also lists that split movies into various genres and categories.

In addition to movie genre, their lists often group movies by critic picks, latest additions, popularity, and alphabetically. You can even write your own review and rate a movie with some memberships. Consumer reviews can be more trustworthy than those of a professional critic.

Huge archives of movies available for download are typical of online memberships. Free online movies that are actually legal are generally in the public domain with expired or un renewed copyrights. These are early 20'th century classics.

The web sites of the major TV networks have free television shows that are recent and popular. However, only a select few of these series are available and only for a limited time.

Movie membership sites offer you security from computer viruses, spy ware and mal ware. By contrast, getting free movies from questionable sources is a true risk to the health of your PC. If you're using a file sharing network for your downloads, you never know what sort of virus or spy ware might have been introduced into your file by someone else on the network.

In short, these are a few of the reasons why paid movie memberships are the best choice for getting your movie entertainment. The benefits of speed, economy, and convenience that the Internet provides over video rental stores are obvious. However, the potential risks that 'free' downloads pose to your computer greatly overshadow any of the inconveniences of the local video store.
