The glycemic index table lists all the measurements for different foods and it shows how fast does food get converted into blood sugar and it also shows that foods that are slow in converting to blood sugar are ranked low in the glycemic index table, while foods that are ranked high on the table will mean that that food is almost immediately converted to blood sugar.
All Food Are Measured Against Glucose

Essentially, the glycemic index table requires pure glucose as the basic food with which to measure all other foods against it, and which thus has a score of one hundred on the glycemic index against other foods that are ranked from high to low. However, this score is not the maximum as it can be bettered as is the case with dried dates that actually come up with a score of one hundred and three. The importance of the glycemic index table is seen when it shows you which the foods that are digested slowly are, and which will thus help you to keep blood sugar levels stable. In addition, by knowing foods that do not digest fast, you will be able to eat these foods that would in turn help you remain fuller for a longer period of time.

However, there are some foods like instant mashed potatoes that score high on glycemic index tables with a score of eighty-six which will can cause you to have blood sugar spikes that are then followed by a very quick decline which is like a roller coaster ride and which leads to overeating as well as a state of chronic exhaustion and thus does not do you any good.

Thus, if you are not careful about controlling your blood sugar levels, you will put additional strain on your body and also is prone to developing diabetes as well as different diseases as well. And, in this regard, the glycemic index table is especially useful for diabetics since it shows them which foods should be eaten and which foods will help stabilize the blood sugar levels, and which can also aid a diabetic in reducing dependence, and in some cases, even do away with the need for insulin injections. Thus, by understanding the glycemic index table, you will have taken an important first step in preventing and treating diabetes.

Another use of the glycemic index table is in helping weight watchers achieve a balanced body weight, and this is easily accomplished by eating foods that are ranked low in the glycemic index table, which should cause you to greatly reduce your overall intake of food, and when such food is digested slowly, it causes less feelings of hunger, and it should also help in balancing blood sugar levels at appropriate levels, and prevent food being converted into fat immediately after consumption.
