Can you boost your web site traffic today? And I don't mean necessarily by PPC (pay per click) which can be expensive. Here are some ideas and things you can do for little or no cost and get people visiting your site within a few hours.

Blogging - do you own your own blog? If not you can set one up today for no money at all by using www.blogger.com or www.wordpress.com and start getting links to your site. Some of those links will generate their own traffic, so the trick is to get the word out about your post. What do you do is write a post with keywords related to your topic or niche, and then use the ping services to get the word out. Try using www.pingomatic.com and www.pingoat.com that will send your link out to lots of blog directories and sites. Traffic will grow the more you do it.

Forum posting - there is a forum for every subject I can think of and you can mostly join for free. Search for them on Google by typing in your keyword plus the word forum. You shouldn't promote your products or services in the forum post but focus on writing great posts and offer help and advice. You then do your selling bit in your forum signature. This can often bring a boost in traffic in a day - but make sure you stick to the threads that are busy with lots of people looking.

Article writing - whilst some of the better article directories review your article before they post it to ensure quality some don't, and that means you can get an article with a link to your site visible the same day. Other people pick up on them and put them on your sites all with your author bio box at the bottom linking to your site.

Use Digg - place a snippet of your story or news item on Digg and they list it on their high traffic site within a few hours, often quicker - a great way to get exposure and longer term build your links and longer term traffic.

Email your list - what? You don't have a list yet? Surprisingly lot's of people on the web haven't built up there own email list. If you haven't already done so I can send you some more info. Just visit my blog. The good thing about a list is you can preset a series of messages to offer them, and you can send out an email broadcast at any time telling them to visit your site for the latest special offer or piece of advice - voila - instant boost to web traffic.

Joint Ventures - politely ask another list owner in your business if you can form a mutually beneficial partnership and let them promote to your list, or put a banner on your web site. In exchange you get to do the same, but emailing to their list is the most beneficial thing to do and this can bring you a boost to your internet traffic. Make sure you aren't in direct competition with each other. To use a popular example, if you knew a business that sold gold clubs and you sold golf shoes then you have a product that will be of interest but not in direct competition.
