Niche marketing is currently a buzz word - everyone tells you to use niche marketing for success... but how?

Some are of the opinion that niche marketing is lloking for less competetive keywords - but is that a strategy?

Looking for low hanging - low competetive keywords is a tool - a tactic on your way to success - but sure no strategy.

so what is a strategy - or better said niche marketing strategy?

Focusing on a segment of an possible audience - a well defined segment is niche marketing.

Lets use an example to make this clear: You are an Internet Marketing freak and you want to offer a consulting service.

Your first step should be to ask yourself:

Who is interested in this kind of service i offer?

Every one who wants to earn money with internet marketing.

As this is not really a big help for deciding what you need to do to achieve any money goal the next step is to segment this list vertically a bit more.

You take an excel spreadsheet and write down all possible customers - important think of persons!

So for example:

People who want to use internet marketing for starting their home business, or people who already started with internet marketing but had no success,...

That gives you a good starting but you should even segment this list a bit more:

Now use the groups you already have and find segments in this group:

Consultants who have not used the internet till now for their offline office or even more targeted - lawyers who want to add internet to their marketing portfolio

The last step is to segment the group you have found horizontally.

The next step is to search for all the proplems the people in your segment face.

Example: for your home based business owner who currently works in a day to day job - one problem will be how to start an internet business while working in my day to day job 8 to 10 hours a day.

For the lawyer: How to use the internet to drive targeted clients to my company 24/7 days a week.

Now you have a matrix where you find possible customers with their problems.

So now you can do ...

You have a detailed layout what products you can produce and who is in need of that product. That makes your live a lot easier.

And with tiny changes you will be able to sell your product to other niches.
