In this competitive market environment, idea generation expands by using three processes. These processes embody relaxation, interaction, and integration.

Marketing is the first line of business for anyone who is self-employed. If you don't market well, you'll soon be looking for another employer.

In today's competitive environment, it's hard to come up with new marketing ideas. Most marketing tactics are used over and over to the point that they are stale.

When you spend all your time and mental energy on running your business, it's difficult to generate new marketing tactics. This article provides you with three ways to refocus your creativity and boost your marketing.

In This Competitive Market Environment, Idea Generation Through Relaxation:

If you are so busy running your business that you don't take time to do what relaxes you, then you are robbing yourself of new ideas that your subconscious wants to reveal.

Worry and stress hinders your subconscious, but you can free its creativity by relaxing. So what relaxes you?

I relax best outside in nature so when I need a creative idea, I just walk outside and enjoy natural surroundings. The wind blowing through the trees, the birds singing, or watching a squirrel gathering acorns put be at ease. Often I get a creative solution to a concern in just minutes after walking outside.

You need to relax if you want to generate ideas. So what relaxes you? Is it rocking a child, tinkering with your car, or just laying in the sun? Do it and you'll reap the rewards, as your relaxed conscious mind listens to your subconscious speak its creative ideas.

Another way to channel your subconscious mind to give you innovative ideas is to go to bed with a concern for which you need a solution. Don't worry about it and keep yourself awake. Just tell your subconscious, "Tonight I need your help with ..."

It may take several nights before your subconscious answers, but have faith and keep a pen and paper handy to record that answer when it comes.

When that creative idea comes to you, write it down immediately. Otherwise, you may not remember it once your conscious mind takes control the next day. Thus, the idea will be lost again.

You need every advantage in this competitive market environment so let your subconscious generate ideas for you. It will be the least expensive and one of the most productive workers you'll ever have.

In This Competitive Market Environment, Idea Generation Through Interaction:

You can also get great marketing ideas when you interact with others. Anytime that two or more people put their heads together to resolve a concern, creative forces are released. In deed, many idea generating tactics base on this principle.

Mastermind groups build from this principle, as do retreats, group brain storming, and even counseling.

Sometimes, all it takes to use an interaction process, is to have someone listen to your concern. As you tell the other person about it, you often reveal potential solutions that were just waiting to come forth.

It's also a good idea to involve people across your business, especially when the concern affects them all. Because marketing is basic to your business and because everyone is on the receiving end of much marketing, everyone will likely have ideas to contribute. But you need to insure that the environment is safe for them to do so.

In This Competitive Market Environment, Idea Generation Through Integration:

Finally, generating good marketing ideas in this competitive market requires integration.

Small business owners frequently don't see beyond their own businesses or industries. But frequently marketing techniques used in other industries can be adapted successfully to yours. This requires becoming aware of what other businesses are doing and how their ideas can apply to your business.

Attending meetings where different types of businesses come together provides you with ample opportunity to learn the creative marketing ideas that other business owners use. Chamber of Commerce and similar meetings are as good for learning from each other as from formal presentations.

Integration also includes swipe files. Anytime you see an advertisement, get a direct mail promotion, or pickup a publication that you find effective, save it in your swipe file. Then take out this file when you need marketing ideas.

Now don't let the term "swipe" mislead you. You don't duplicate the ideas. That would be stealing. But you specifically adapt ideas that you like for your business.

Today's competitive market environment requires new innovative ideas. If your marketing is to be successful, you should constantly be seeking creative marketing ideas.

Summary

If you use all three processes for idea generation covered in this article, you will constantly think of new ideas to invigorate your marketing. So use relaxation, interaction, and integration, and even in this competitive market environment, idea generation is possible.
