If you ever want to make something permanent, take the time to write it down. Somehow the issue you are writing about seems to have more gravity when you do.
I recently began to think about what type of legacy I would be leaving after I passed away. None of this was in a morbid sense, I just began to wonder what my kids and those around me would most remember about me after I was gone. Would they clearly be able to know what I stood for?
Over the next several days, I will try and give you my thoughts on the life lessons I have tried to teach my kids.
Have you ever noticed that life seems to get more and more serious every day? It's almost as if people have lost their sense of humor. Work is more serious. School is more serious. Athletics are more serious. Heck, even play time is more serious.
We are all very busy, but we need to take time every day just to have fun.
Last night I was in my kitchen and I noticed that my children were in the living room wrestling, having the time of their lives. I knew that I had a ton of work to do, but suddenly none of that mattered. It was time to turn the playtime up a notch!
I threw the dish towel aside and run into the living room with my hands waving frantically over my head and screaming my own rendition of a war cry. Suddenly my kids were screaming in delight as I pounced on the group and the tickle wars began. Within minutes my wife and oldest son were bounding down the stairs and jumping into the fray. For the next twenty minutes or so it was pure chaos in my house, and I could not have been any happier.
That night as I lay in bed reflecting on the day's events, I realized how important to teach our kids how to have fun. Let the rest of the world teach them how to be serious, one of our job as parents is to crank up the fun and to teach them how to enjoy every precious minute of their lives. Isn't having fun part of being a kid?
