If you have never been on a ski vacation away from home, boy do you have quite a different packing experience ahead of you! Ski holidays are fun once you get to your destination, but if you are rather new to the whole ski business, the packing will be somewhat of a new deal for you. You have a plethora of equipment to take with you in addition to all the layers of clothing and much more.
What to Pack in Terms of Ski Clothing

For ski holidays, you should keep your mind on layering of clothes when you pack your suitcases. By packing in the order that you put on your ski attire, you will be less likely to forget anything! Start with your primary base layer which would be your long underwear and follow it with your middle layers which usually consist of a long sleeve turtleneck or a sweater. Your insulating layer is what traps in your body heat and could include fleece button up shirts or jackets.

The final layer to pack for ski holidays is the outer ski pants and jacket which should be weather proof to wick away moisture. Pack your suitcase based on the number of days you plan to be away. However, the golden rule is typically one base layer and one mid-layer for every two days you are gone because you can wash them if necessary.

Packing your Ski Accessories and Non-Ski Clothing

Your ski accessories are just as important as your ski clothing and you want to be sure that you don’t forget anything as these items can be pricey at your ski resort! You will need to pack at least three pairs of ski socks along with your ski helmet or protective hat as well as gloves, goggles and your neck gaiter. Sunscreen and lip balm are essential and should be on your packing list for all ski holidays you take.

Of course, there will always be times when you are not outside hitting the slopes during your ski holidays so non-ski wear is important to pack as well. Pack warm and follow the same principle with ski clothing: pack clothing that can be worn in layers so you can remove as the temperature dictates. Walking boots are essential and will protect your feet from the elements like melting snow and slush.

If you are traveling a long distance for your ski holidays, do you plan to fly your own equipment like skis, ski poles and ski boots? You will have to pack them in a special ski bag properly labeled with your destination as well as your contact information. Otherwise, you can easily rent the items that you need once you arrive at the ski resort. In fact, renting the ski equipment will end up being cheaper than paying to fly your own equipment on your ski holidays.

Of course, besides all the requisite ski paraphernalia you will need for your trip, you will need the regular stuff like underwear, grooming items and medications. Packing for ski holidays takes a rather crafty hand, especially if you don’t want to end up traveling with multiple suitcases. Therefore, practice a few times at home until you have consolidated as much as possible to make your traveling experience as smooth as possible.
