Acne treatment is not only limited to treating pimples and blemishes. It also involves removing impurities such as blackheads and whiteheads.

Blackheads are a type of acne vulgaris and are also known as open comedones. It is mainly caused by excess sebum that clogged the pores. When excess oils are combined with trapped toxins and subsequently exposed to oxidization, blackhead becomes the result.

People with oily and combination skin types often have blackhead problems, especially around the T-zone area. Blackheads that are left untreated can lead to unsightly enlarged pores.

Whitehead is yet another type of acne vulgaris. However, unlike blackheads, it is not so obvious.

Whiteheads are mainly caused by excess oils and dead skin cells that clog the pores.

Most of the time, people will try to remove blackheads and whiteheads by squeezing them. However, this method is not advised as it can cause infections and scarring.

You have to be aware that treatments for blackheads and whiteheads will take some time. However, there are products that can help to speed up the process and at the same time, prevent scarring.

Salicylic Acid - assist in getting rid of bacteria and excess oil. It is a very effective solution for removing blackheads.

Alpha Hydroxyl Acids - can be used to remove dead skin cells and get rid of whiteheads.

Benzoyl Peroxide - not as effective as the above for removing blackheads but it is used commonly for treating pimples.

Accutane - not recommended unless all else fail. Accutane has a number of side effects. If possible, try other methods first.

Home Remedy - you can also use a face steam to remove whiteheads. Add some essential oils to the steamer. The essential oil can be use for anti bacteria purposes.

Lemon juice can be used as a toner to help reduce excess oil on the skin.

You can also use pore strips to remove loose blackheads and whiteheads. If you combine it with the usage of salicylic acid, you should be able to remove these impurities quite successfully.

However, remember not to overdo with the pore strips. You should use the salicylic acid solution for a while to loosen the clogged pores and use pore strip once or twice a week to remove the dirt.
