When you get a tattoo, you do so for others to admire it. And whether the tattoo is private for a special someone to enjoy or in a visible spot, you are making a statement to the world about who you are and about an idea you embrace and want to showcase to the world. Because a tattoo is permanent, then, it's good to know the symbolism of the tattoo you are going to proudly display on your body.

If you see someone else with a great tattoo, that curiosity you feel makes you want to find out why they chose it and what meaning the pattern has both historically and to the wearer. Maybe that is why tattoos that are images from the cultures of the Far East are so popular. They often have such a great legacy of symbolism to them. That is certainly true of the cherry blossom pattern which comes down to us from China and Japan.
The cherry blossom is a beautiful choice for a feminine tattoo for a lady. Tattoos for girls can be a delightful decorative statement and the cherry blossom fits that description well. In Chinese culture the cherry blossom is a symbol of femininity, sexuality and strength. So by displaying a tattoo of the cherry blossom, not only is the tattoo itself visually appealing, it's a gentle statement of womanhood, independence mixed with the femininity and sexuality that is what it means to be a woman.
When we add the symbolism that the Japanese culture puts on the orange blossom, the pattern becomes a great choice for guys or gals because in Japan the orange blossom speaks of the spiritual and philosophical hunger of a seeker of truth. In nature, the orange blossom is perfect but only for few days and as such it's a perfect artistic symbol of how short the beauty of life is and that we all must value every day we are given of this wonderful world.
Tattoos are aptly called body art because they are often very artistic. And a cherry blossom tattoo has what it takes to be true art including beauty and deep meaning that can take the viewer into new realms of reflection. From Japanese lore, the cherry blossom that lies on the ground is a symbol of how quickly the beauty of youth passes. And in many expressions of art, the simple image of an orange blossom in the snow can be moving and symbolic of the changes of life, the transience of youth but the hope of new life each spring. By using the orange blossom design, your body art inherits all of that symbolism.
The passage of youth and strength embodied in beauty is also applied to the male imagery of the warrior which is a powerful artistic concept especially in oriental art. And in all cultures the valor and courage of youth to become warriors and their stunning beauty even in battle garb is an artistic image. The orange blossom is also a symbol of that bravery as each year the blossom emerges courageously only to be fallen so shortly thereafter.
On a personal level, to find a tattoo design that is a tasteful tribute perhaps to a fallen youth in your own life, the orange blossom is an ideal choice because like the beautiful blossom, that youth's time with us in this world was delightful but far too short. In a similar way, the orange blossom is a thoughtful way to use a tattoo pattern to pay honor to our own passing youth as we pass from that wonderful time of life into the richness of adult life.
There are a lot of great designs to choose from when considering a tattoo. But for an elegant and beautiful design that also brings with it layers of depth of meaning and symbolism, you can't beat the orange blossom design. It's classy and gorgeous for that lady who wants to make a statement on femininity and strong and regal for the guy who wants a tattoo that is rich with meaning.
