Elk are among the largest species of deer and are plentiful in Montana. So if you're thinking about big game hunting on your next vacation, Montana is the place for you. It's always good to plan ahead for things trips. Planning ahead will make certain that you have your dream Montana elk hunting vacation.
Hunting isn't all about luck. If you know where to look for game then chances are you will find it. So make sure that you know the area you will be hunting in by pre scouting it. If you have limited time check with the department in charge and they will be able to give you information.
Know what type of food and shelter elks seek out at the time you are coming since things like these can vary. If you find their source of food or where they stay, then the elks can't be far away. It's a smart move to hire a guide or a hunting outfitter as well, there's nothing like having someone who knows the place well.
Over and above anything, don't forget to purchase a hunting license. Without the proper license you won't be able to hunt for anything. You can purchase a Montana hunting license online before going on your trip if you want to get ahead.

Make sure that you pack everything you will need. Things you won't want to forget are a camera, binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellant and appropriate clothing for hunting. Don't forget to throw in your sleeping bag as well if you're doing a wilderness hunt.
Regardless of whether or not you'll be spending a few nights in the wilderness you will still want to check into a lodge where you can relax after. If you're going during peak season, then it would be advisable to make reservations early.
