When you travel abroad you must make sure you have good medical coverage. You can receive health care benefits outside your home country if you have Visitor Medical Insurance. When your health care costs are paid by the insurance company your family's assets are protected.
Make sure your most valuable resource, your health is protected. Most advanced medical treatments and hospitals are available in the US but they come with huge costs. When you are a visitor in another country you must be adequately prepared for these expenses.
Sudden illnesses and injuries occurring during your travel are covered by Visitor Medical Insurance plans. Doctor office visits, hospitalization, surgery, prescription drugs are typically covered by these plans. Chronic illnesses or pre existing conditions are usually not covered by the Visitor medical plans.
A few things to keep in mind before buying a Visitor Medical Insurance plan:
1. Plan benefits: Make sure you read the plan benefits carefully, they can vary widely. Comprehensive plans can cover you up to the plan maximum, Fixed benefit plans have limits on each type of benefit. Some offer prescription coverage and some might not. You must select a plan that offers the benefits that are most important for you.
2. Duration of Coverage: If you are sure of your travel dates you may not require a plan that is renewable. On the other hand if you are unsure of your dates, it may be better if you purchase a plan that can be renewed beyond its initial term.
3. Affordability/Coverage Amount: The cost of your plan depends on the maximum coverage amount and deductible you select. Higher the plan limit, higher is the cost of the plan. Higher the deductible, lower is the cost of the plan. You must select the combination of coverage amount and deductible based on how much you want to spend on the Visitor medical Insurance.
4. Visa type: There are several plans designed for holders of each type of visa - Student plans designed for F1 visa holders, Exchange/ Scholar plans for those holding J1 visas. The plans are only available to those holding the appropriate visa. Make sure you select the plan that is applicable to your Visa status.
If selecting a Visitor insurance plan seems too overwhelming, consult an experienced insurance agent. Make sure the insurance agent has adequate knowledge of the plans designed for visitors and travelers.
